Update, update, update

If online marketing is important to you, then it’s a solid bet that computers are big part of your daily life. Keeping up with your company’s Facebook fans and Twitter followers as well as juggling all of the emails to get jobs done and – more importantly increase profit – means that your computer needs to be at its best! Although you would normally find expert insights about SEO and Social Media topics here, this is one of those must-have pieces of advice to help keep your business going strong.

When was the last time you updated your computer’s software? Most computer users know the little balloon window that invades their screen with a warning that some type of software is about to update. Sometimes it is audibly a simple groan heard in the office to recognize when someone’s workflow for the day will be interrupted with the required reboot. Sometimes computer users find that they have missed the warning, and updates have already occurred without anything being interrupted.

Although updates may be an inconvenience, it is much bigger than an inconvenience when the outdated, ignored software is an antivirus system such as Norton or Kaspersky or another system that requires a fee for some paid updates or continuing service. Losing a firewall or antivirus protection on the computer in the era of “everyone and their mother” is connected online is a big risk. Not all people on the Internet are kind like our mothers, and without an updated antivirus software in play, one may cry for his or her mother when the entire computer system with all of the necessary data for productivity ends up tanked with a nasty virus or malware.

So, in honor of International Technology Upgrade Week, it is time to take a stand and celebrate our inner geek with updates for our amazing gadgets’ software. Take the pledge, now. “When our applications require an update, we will patiently wait until the bar “thingy” completely uploads rather than ignore it. When the balloons pop up, or the reminders ding-ding, we pledge to click the necessary buttons for a free update to the software. And as needed, we will break out the plastic bank card to protect our machine with an antivirus update so the unwarranted attacks will be thwarted from ruining our day.” Happy software updates.
