Laurie Baldwin first became passionate about technology while writing a thoroughly researched paper for Sociology class. While typing it into her computer, the machine crashed, as they frequently did in those days. Of course, it was the night before the paper was due, and the document was lost to the MS-DOS version of purgatory. What seemed like a calamity at the time ignited her passion for technology and led her on the path toward finding ways to improve it.
As technology evolved, so did her talent. Late in 1995, she began working with companies to help them learn to leverage the power of the Internet. Laurie held marketing positions at a number of technology companies, including Frame Technologies (now Adobe Systems), Software Services and Applicon. She also developed marketing plans and computer training programs for companies such as Ford Motor Company, NSK, Creative Solutions, WebElite, Vector Research, Omnimedia, Domino’s Pizza, Federal Mogul and Michigan National Bank.
Laurie’s marketing and public relations programs have been recognized by the Board of the New Enterprise Forum and earned her an appointment to the Governor's IT Roundtable in Michigan. She has taken an active role in leading industry groups as past president of the Michigan Internet Council. She was also a founding member of the Software Council and Great Lakes Internet Marketing Association, both in Michigan.
Since relocating to Richmond in 2001, Laurie has added a board position at the Richmond Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and Virginia E-commerce Forum. She also maintains committee membership for both the Greater Richmond Technology Council (GRTC) where she manages media relations for the annual awards gala and the Virginia Piedmont Technology Council (VPTC).
In 2002, Laurie and her husband, Jim Baldwin, founded NetBaldwin. After less than four years, the company is now the largest Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) firm in Central Virginia, and one of the top companies of its kind on the east coast. Jim and Laurie service such clients as Children’s Wear Digest, Lumber Liquidators, and American Senior Safety.
When she's not working with her clients, Laurie is coaching teams in the Richmond Strikers Soccer Organization. She also makes frequent appearances at Richmond's Deep Run High School and Nuckols Farm Elementary School.
